Agenda topped by cooperation of social partners on employment issues, energy problems and climate change
SEV President and the Board of Directors carried out a visit to the European Parliament in Strasbourg on 22 and 23 October, during the Plenary Session and had a series of meetings during which they set out the positions and priorities of the Greek business community.
Within the framework of the visit, the Board of Directors met with:
Expressing his satisfaction at the results of the recent EU Council, SEV President Mr. Dimitris Daskalopoulos stressed that “only a Europe that is open, that has overcome its institutional problems, and that actively promotes European interests on the international stage, can ensure the prosperity of its citizens in the era of globalization. Social partners must be able to play a decisive role in this Europe, shaping a climate of social consensus on the promotion of the necessary changes on a Europe-wide level. Within this framework, the social partners on a Europe-wide level adopted a joint report under the title “Key challenges facing European labour markets” in which they support the need for a more favourable business environment and the implementation of the Flexicurity strategy.”
Energy and climate change issues were also discussed during the meetings, with SEV stressing the following:
SEV Board of Directors also met with the European Ombudsman, professor Mr. Nikiforos Diamantouros from Greece, with whom they discussed his important role as the advocate for the rights of citizens in Europe and as the mediator between businesses and the European institutions.
Finally, SEV Board of Directors hosted a dinner for Greek MEPs and Commissioner Mr. M. Kyprianou, with whom they discussed current European affairs.
